CHURCH HISTORY

Paradise Valley Evangelical Free Church was started with a Bible Study Group in Phoenix, Arizona led by Pastor Tom Garasha and a small group of believers in 1982. The church continued to grow in numbers, was incorprated in November, 1983 and was able to conduct public worship services in two elementary schools throughout 1984 and 1985.

In 1985, the church was able to purchase the land and buildings of a Church located on Hearn Street, east of 32nd Street. The church continued to meet at that location until 1992. In 1990, due to construction of State Route 51, our present location was acquired and the building of the current facilities began.

With the move in 1992, also came a new operating name, Shiloh Community Church. This name was born from Pastor Tom’s desire that Shiloh be more than just a building where people gathered to worship, but rather a place of rest, peace and reconnection with God and each other. Over the years, God has blessed that desire and many have found peace, refuge and restoration within this community that we call Shiloh. As the property continued to be developed, with our present Worship Center and Community Center, many lives have been touched and changed through this ministry.

It was also Pastor Tom’s desire that Shiloh is a church that multiplies its efforts by planting other churches. In 1997, the first church plant from Shiloh, Moon Valley Bible Church, was started in the 7th Avenue and Greenway area. At about the same time, a Hispanic church, Communidad Hispana Shiloh, was started at Shiloh. This church still meets each Sunday afternoon and with Bible Studies throughout the week. The church planting continued in 2000 in the Cave Creek area with our third church plant. Cave Creek Evangelical Free Church continues to reach out to their community with the Gospel of Christ. Our latest church plant took place in 2005 with Standing Stones Community Church. Standing Stones is located on Happy Valley Road near I-17, and reaches the rapidly growing North Phoenix area. (For more information on any of our church plants, click here.)

With the planting of Standing Stones Church, Shiloh began to move to a “gift based” ministry model within our ministry staff and throughout the church. This enabled people to serve more effectively in their areas of passion and giftedness. With this change on the staff, Pastor Tom was free to do more relational ministry and mentoring of the present Pastoral staff and throughout the church and community. In the fall of 2006, as a result of this model, Pastor Tom took a position with the Evangelical Free Church Western District in the area of Pastoral Care.

Beginning in January, 2007, Pastor Eric Dalrymple transitioned into the role of Senior/Lead Pastor, and Pastor Jason West moved into being the Preaching Pastor of Shiloh, continuing the model of “gift based” ministry. With this transition, also came the desire to continue the legacy that Pastor Tom developed. The legacy of Shiloh being a place of rest and renewal; the legacy being a place of true ministry in the context of relationships; the legacy of reaching other areas of Phoenix and the world through missions and church planting; and the legacy of people’s lives being changed as they come in contact with the Truth of God’s Word.
